Antique Pietra Dura Plaque of a Violinist
Florence, Italy, c. 1895
A beautiful small antique pietra dura plaque of a violinist, executed in a variety of marbles and coloured hardstones, set within a black marble surround. Note the particularly effective use of the blue agate in rendering his coat.
The size of this makes it particularly charming - it is small, compact, and beautifully proportioned and colourful. The frame is of later date.
