Micromosaic of a Woman at a Fountain in Pompei
Rome, Italy, c. 1870
Retailed by E. Tombini, Rome
A top quality Italian micromosaic of a girl at a fountain in Pompeii, retailed by E. Tombini of Via Condetti & Piazza di Espagna, Rome, and dating from c. 1870.
This bucolic scene has an enchanting quality, with superb colour and light in the stone arrangements. Almost certainly a prized souvenir of the Edwardian Grand Tour, this micromosaic has lots of delicate touches, such as the bluebells to the left hand side, and the cascading quality of her toga echoing the flow of the water from the fountain.
In original, untouched condition, and in its original frame, this is a special and wonderful micromosaic.
