209 : Pierre Bazzanti et Fils, c. 1895
Antique Pietra Dura Plaque of a Drinking Cavalier
Sold
An antique pietra dura plaque of a cavalier drinking from a flagon, in all likelihood based on the original painting by Francesco Vinea.
Whilst a popular subject, it is finely rendered here, with a very attractive combination of jasper, lapis, malachite and mother-of-pearl contrasting with the grey background. The frame is original and beautifully carved ebony.
This plaque bears the retailers label of Pierre Bazzanti et Fils of Florence on the reverse.
