212 : Old Man and his Bottle, c. 1910

Pietra Dura Plaque of an Old Man and his Bottle

Sold

Florence, Italy, c. 1910
Signed "Innocenti"

A fine quality antique pietra dura plaque depicting a man with his wine bottle, after the painting “Fond Memories” by Pompeo Massani.

Whilst the Vin Santo is on hand, this old man clearly prefers his vino rosso. The extremely fine work captures his character perfectly, with a superb attention to detail. The stone of his coat has its own beautiful translucence that lends this plaque a real feeling of quality. The signature in the top right hand corner is “Innocenti”, for Oreste Innocenti of Florence (1867-1948).

The frame is later but works perfectly with the plaque. A very decorative and enjoyable piece.
