Antique Pietra Dura Plaque of a Cellist

Sold

A magnificent quality antique pietra dura plaque made by Giovanni Montelatici in Florence in c. 1905. The image is of a cellist playing in a salon with the window open behind him, giving onto the hills beyond. The quality of the craftsmanship is superb, and it has a beautiful calming tone from the combination of green stones used throughout the piece. It is signed in the lower right hand corner.

The plaque is housed in its original, and rather unusual, neo-Gothic casement frame with two doors that open to reveal the cellist within. Both plaque and frame are in excellent condition, and of the highest quality.
