Antique Pietra Dura Plaque of the Doves of Pliny
Florence, Italy, c. 1900
An antique pietra dura plaque depicting the famous Doves of Pliny or Capitoline Doves, mainly in white marble with a lovely lustre to it which is beautifully contrasted by the black marble base. A simple but elegant interpretation of a classic subject. The frame is later, but sets the plaque off perfectly.
