Kalliope Panorama Automat Antique Disc Music Box, Leipzig, c. 1895
We are pleased to make available a rare and beautiful Kalliope Panorama Automat playing 20 ½” / 52cm discs.
Its principal feature: a colourful hand-painted diorama of 10 racing horses which gallop along the racecourse as the music plays. Bets can be placed as to whose horse passes the winning post when the music stops.
This machine is coin operated, and also features 12 saucer bells which can be silenced at will. The case is walnut, with a later pediment, and it sits on a later, purpose-made disc bin designed to match the machine. It comes with 11 discs, 5 original and 6 new.
This machine was fully overhauled and restored approximately 12 years ago, and as part of this process, some elements of the case and motor have been replaced. It is now in perfect working order. A superb example of a very hard-to-find machine.
