1217 : Schoenhut, c. 1890
Antique Musical Picture Automaton by Schoenhut
Sold
A very rare, unusual and charming musical picture automaton probably made by Schoenhut in Austria in c. 1890.
The picture features three chicks dancing – one in a pink dress and two in blue jackets – orchestrated by a rooster dressed in a blue dress coat with a yellow waistcoat and spurs. Before the two younger onlookers, the group dances to the one tune the picture plays while the rooster counts the beat.
It is all in original condition and recently serviced, and is in good working order. . A handwritten note on the inside of the case indicate it was repaired by Tibbett Bros (who may be the confectioners of Tampa, Florida) and another illegible name, possibly in September 1899.
