Antique 8 Bell & Drum Music Box by Samuel Troll (?), c. 1875

For Sale

A lovely quality antique music box with eight bells and central drum, probably made by Samuel Troll of Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1875.

The fully serviced movement features eight intricately engraved bells arranged in two sets of four on either side of a central drum with eight beaters (the skin of the drum has been restored).

Both the bells and the drum can be disengaged and re-engaged at will using the two levers at the front of the combs.

This music box plays a selection of eight operatic tunes including Mendelsohn’s ‘Wedding March’, as detailed on the original tunesheet attached to the underside of the lid.

The case is beautiful, inlaid rosewood with an intricate inlay to the lid as well as kingwood crossbanding and boxwood stringing to the lid, front, and sides.
