1173 : Samuel Troll (?), c. 1880
Antique Music Box with 9 Bells possibly by Samuel Troll, c. 1880
Sold
A nice and unusual antique music box probably made by the prestigious firm of Samuel Troll in Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1880.
The musical movement features 9 individually engraved bells that are struck by an array of different strikers, including 4 honey bees. The effect of this combination is a very interesting visual range which also has a fine playing sound.
This music box plays 12 sacred airs with nice complex arrangements, lending the box a great deal of character. The base is veneered in burr walnut with tulipwood inlay and boxwood stringing to the top, front and sides.
It is a great-looking music box with a sound to match.
