Antique Bell and Drum Buffet Music Box by Paillard, c. 1885

A nice quality antique four bell and drum “buffet” style antique music box made by Paillard of St Croix, Switzerland in c. 1885.

The musical movement has been fully serviced and features a skin drum with 6 beaters and 4 bells, three of which are struck by swallow strikers. The music box plays a selection of 8 popular tunes as detailed on the replacement tunesheet inside the left hand door of the case. Tunes include Home Sweet Home and After the Ball (shown in the video).

The case is rosewood with inlay to both doors along with kingwood crossbanding and tulipwood stringing. Despite some small imperfections in the veneer, it is a beautiful and unusual music box.
