Antique 6 Bell Music Box by Paillard, c. 1885

Sold

A beautiful quality antique cylinder music box made by Paillard on St Croix, Switzerland in c. 1885.

The fully overhauled movement features 6 bells, each engraved with an individual pattern and struck by 6 beet strikers. These bells can be turned on and off at will. The original tunesheet details the 8 Scottish airs that the music box plays. The sound is very nice, and the striking of the bees most attractive.

The case of this box is particularly nice – rosewood with an elaborate musical cartouche inlay to both the lid and the front, along with tulipwood stringing. Everything is in excellent condition, making this a particularly attractive music box.
