Antique Orchestral Buffet Music Box by Paillard, c. 1895

Sold

A nice and unusual orchestral buffet-style antique music box made by Paillard of Saint Croix, Switzerland in c. 1895.

The movement features 4 bells and a drum with 6 beaters above a cylinder playing a selection of 8 tunes with a nice sound, and all protected by an interior glass door.

The case is veneered in burr walnut with kingwood crossbanding and boxwood, and also has the rather beautiful addition of Victorian flower details added around the controls and lever, and a cherub behind the orchestral section, along with a further detail to the lid of the case. At the rear of the case there is a shrinkage crack to the backing board, but aside from this it is in very good condition.
