An excellent quality antique music box made by Paillard of St Croix, Switzerland in c. 1880.

The movement features 6 engraved bells struck by bee strikers which can be engaged and disengaged at will. It also features a tune indicator.

The music box plays a selection of 10 operatic and popular tunes including Verdi’s ‘Il Trovatore’, ‘Rule Britannia’, and ‘Silver threads among the gold’, as detailed on the original tunesheet.

This is all housed within an inlaid rosewood case with a musical motif to the lid, a floral motif to the front, tulipwood stringing with kingwood crossbanding, and gilt carrying handles.
