This is an excellent quality antique music box made by the leading maker Nicole Freres of Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1875.
The fully serviced movement features a finely engraved skin drum, 6 saucer bells struck by birds and a castanet, and plays 8 well known popular airs with a very fine sound.
The case is also beautiful, inlaid and veneered in rosewood together with a colourful musical cartouche inlay to the lid and a floral inlay to the front.
This is an excellent example of a first-class drum bell and castanewt music box in excellent condition.
