Antique Forte Piano Music Box by Nicole Freres, c. 1855

Sold

A fine quality long cylinder forte piano antique music box made by Nicole Freres of Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1855.

The music box plays a selection of 8 traditional English tunes of the era with a fine, delicate sound typical of the forte piano arrangement: one small comb for soft music, and then the larger comb for contrasting bolder sound. With the long cylinder, this creates a great effect.

The movement is wound with its original key and comes in an inlaid rosewood case (some signs of long dead woodworm to the lid), and with the original tunesheet too.

It is an elegant music box with nice character and age, and from arguably the best possible maker of the era.
