Antique Buffet-Style Music Box with Bells by Mojon Manger, c. 1890
A superb-sounding and large size buffet-style antique music box by Mojon Manger of Geneva, Switzerland, made in c. 1890.
The fully serviced movement features 6 bells surmounted by 2 coloured butterflies and 4 coloured flower finials, organised around a delicate central device which lends a beautiful design to the musical movement.
The comb features a zither bar, and the governor is stamped with the maker’s mark. The movement also has a fortissimo arrangement, resulting in a rather wonderful sound.
It plays 8 tunes as detailed on the original tunesheet, including ‘Home Sweet Home’, Balfe’s ‘Bohemian Girl’ and ‘The Tannhauser March’ by Wagner.
This is contained within a beautiful inlaid burr walnut case with mother-of-pearl and brass inlays to the front, along with gilt carrying handles to the size.
A magnificent example of an unusually large size buffet music box.
