1211 : Langdorff (?), c. 1870

Antique Forte Piano Mandoline Music Box, Swiss, c. 1870

Sold

A superb quality forte piano mandoline antique music box possibly made by Langdorff in Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1870.

This music box has a wonderful subtle sound thanks to its unusual arrangement, and plays an unusual selection of 8 operatic tunes including Meyerbeer’s ‘La Prophete’ (featured in the video), Mendelssohn’s Song No. 4, and Beethoven’s Waltz No. 3. The extra large spring indicates the quality of the music box, and allows for longer-than-average running time.

It is housed within a gorgeous burr walnut case raised on an ebonised plinth, and also features its original tunesheet in a design very rarely seen.

A beautiful and fine quality music box.
