Antique Drum, Bell & Castanet Music Box by Karrer, c. 1895
A superb orchestral antique music box with drum, 6 engraved bells and castanet made by Karrer of Geneva in c. 1895.
The movement has been fully serviced and is in excellent condition, and is as attractive to look at as it is to listen to.
The 6 individually engraved bells are struck by a colourful array of enamelled insects, and both the drum and the castanet are each struck by a set of 8 beaters in staggered formation.
The movement also features a zither bar. All these elements can be engaged and disengaged at will.
This music box plays a selection of 8 popular tunes with a lovely lively sound.
The case is fine quality inlaid rosewood with musical motifs to both the front and the lid, kingwood crossbanding with tulipwood stringing, and gilt carrying handles to the sides.
