Antique Mandoline Music Box by J H Heller, c. 1870

A very fine quality antique music box made by J H Heller of Bern, Switzerland in c. 1870.

The musical movement has two combs and a mandolin arrangement, and plays 8 well-known operatic airs with a beautiful and rich sound, including ‘The Last Rose’ from Martha, Lucrezia Borgia, and Wagner’s ‘Tannhauser March’.

This is housed within a very elegant slimline case, veneered in burr walnut with tulipwood banding and canted corners on top of an ebonised base.

It has beautiful proportions and patina, and makes for a very handsome piece of furniture as well as a wonderful-sounding music box.
