For Sale

A superb quality antique music box with 6 bells and mandarin automata strikers made by George Bendon of Geneva Switzerland in c.1880.

The musical movement features 6 rack-mounted bells struck by three individual mandarin strikers, two gilt and one silver gilt, who each nod their heads as they play.

The original George Bendon tunesheet details the 8 popular tunes the music box plays, including ‘God Save the Queen’, ‘HMS Pinafore’ and ‘The Pirates of Penzance’. The sound is excellent.

The movement is housed in a beautiful burr walnut case with tulipwood and boxwood inlay to the lid, front and sides, as well as bronze gilt carrying handles.  All original, excellent size, lovely proportions, and a superb sound.
