Antique Full Orchestral Music Box by George Bendon, c. 1885

Sold

A good quality full orchestral antique music box made by George Bendon of Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1885.

The musical movement features a drum, castanet, an 18-note reed organ and a magnificent array of 6 engraved bells struck by a selection of bird and flower strikers.

The sound is good and it plays a selection of 8 operatic tunes as listed on the original tunesheet, including Carmen, HMS Pinafore, and Lucie de Lammermoor.

The musical movement has had an amount of restoration in the past, with five teeth replaced on the right comb and a number of tips on the left, and is in good working order. The drum, bells, and castanet can all be disengaged at will.

The movement is housed within a decorative case with floral motif inlays to both the lid and front, as well as crossbanding to the lid, front, and sides.
