Antique Drum, Bell & Castanet Music Box by Ducommun Girod, c. 1875
A good quality antique cylinder music box made by the firm of Ducommun Girod in Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1875.
The musical movement features a drum, a castanet, and 5 beautifully engraved bells, two of which are stuck by bird strikers.
The bells, drum and castanet can all be engaged and disengaged at will using the levers at the front of the box.
The musical movement also features a tune indicator showing which tune is playing (in combination with the replacement tunesheet), and a tune selector on the right hand side of the cylinder.
It plays a selection of 8 popular tunes including the Viennese waltz shown in the video.
This is all housed in a fine quality case veneered in rosewood with a classical inlay to the lid, a geometric inlay to the front, and kingwood crossbanding and tulipwood stringing to the lid, front and sides.
