A beautiful antique cylinder music box with three bells and two dancing dolls made by the firm of Dawkins in Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1875.
The fully overhauled movement features three saucer bells with swallow strikers,and two original dancing dolls in very nice condition. The maker's mark is stamped on the governor.
The music box plays a selection of 8 popular Victorian airs including After the Ball and Faust Up to Date with a nice, jolly sound, as listed on the replacement tunesheet inside the lid.
The case is veneered rosewood with an inlay to the lid, and both kingwood crossbanding and tulipwood stringing to the front and top. It is a lovely, lively box in very nice condition.
