Antique Mandarin Automata Music Box by Cuendet, c. 1890

For Sale

A cute, entertaining and very nice sounding cylinder music box made by J. Cuendet in Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1890.

The musical movement features two brightly coloured mandarin automata strikers who each strike two rack mounted saucer bells and turn their heads in time with the music.

It plays a selection of 8 popular, jolly tunes of the era as listed on the later tunesheet. The box has a bright sound and is great entertainment.

The movement is housed in a petite simulated rosewood case with a veneered rosewood lid, and a floral inlay to the lid as well as tulipwood stringing.
