1161 : Cuendet (?), c. 1890

Antique Mandolin Expressive Music Box possibly by Cuendet, c. 1890

Sold

A beautiful sounding mandolin expressive music box probably made by Cuendet of St Croix in c. 1890.

The fully serviced movement has a mandolin arrangement, giving it a very nice, sweet sound, and plays 8 operatic tunes as detailed on the original tunesheet. The cylinder is nickel plated, and the movement features a double spring, a working zither bar and a tune indicator.

The case is most unusual and very decorative, most probably of English craftsmanship, veneered in mahogany with satinwood banding and Sheraton style inlays.

The combination of this and the mandolin movement make this a very attractive and charming music box.
