Antique 6 Bell Music Box by Conchon, c. 1875

Sold

A very fine quality 6 bell antique cylinder music box made by Conchon of Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1875.

The musical movement has been fully serviced and features 6 engraved bells surmounted by colourful enamel flower and bee finials, and are struck by bird strikers.

The music box plays a selection of 8 well known tunes with a beautiful sound, as detailed on the original tunesheet.

It comes in a beautiful honey-coloured burr walnut veneered case with colourful cartouches inlaid with a variety of woods to the lid and front, along with tulipwood banding. There is a slight old warp to the lid – not unusual in boxes of this age. The case is mounted on an ebonised plinth.

There is also the original retailer’s label of C Scotcher & Son of Birmingham; their name is also embossed into the left hand rim of the case, with ‘Birmingham’ on the opposite rim.

A wonderful quality, great looking, great sounding music box.
