1160 : Andree Soualle, c. 1860
Antique Organ Music box by Andre Soualle, Paris, c. 1860
Sold
A very rare and impressive antique organ music box made by Andre Soualle in Paris, France in c. 1860.
The music box features a single comb complemented by a 16 key organ section, and plays 6 operative airs with a truly fine sound, including Il Trovatore.
The case is outstanding, of exceptional quality: veneered in rosewood and with magnificent large Buhl inlays to both the lid and the front, as well as brass and pewter stringing. The condition of the Buhl inlays is superb.
A case of this quality is testament to the quality of the music box itself: an early organ box, by an unusual maker and made to very high standards. This box has recently come from a private collection in the UK and is a rarity on the market.
