Antique Drum, Bell and Castanet Music Box by Ami Rivenc, c. 1890
A lovely sounding large orchestral cylinder music box made by Ami Rivenc of Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1890.
This music box plays a collection of 12 popular tunes as listed on the original tunesheet, and has a nice jolly sound. The movement features a large drum; six saucer bells, two of which have bird finials, struck by hammer strikers; a castanet with 4 beaters; a zither bar with an engraver controller; and an engraved tune indicator. The governor is also stamper with the maker’s distinctive sphinx mark.
It has been fully restored and is in excellent condition, and is housed within an inlaid rosewood case with a musical motif inlay to the lid an a transfer decal to the front.
