Antique Organ Music Box by Ami Rivenc, c. 1885

Sold

This is a large and important antique music box with organ section, made by Ami Rivenc of Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1885.

The movement features a 16 note reed organ, two combs, a huge spring barrel, and a very interesting engraved tune indicator sitting centrally above the cylinder. It plays a good selection of 12 operatic airs including La Traviata, Faust, La Norma and Il Trovatore, as detailed on both the metallic tune indicator and also the tunesheet on the underside of the lid.

The sound is good and complex, and it is in very good condition. The rosewood case is large and impressive, with fine and intricate inlays to both the lid and front, along with kingwood crossbanding, boxwood stringing and a pair of beautiful large gilt carrying handles.

Large, impressive, and important: a wonderful music box.
